Nathan's Indonesian Adventure

My name is Nathan Cremisino and I'm a student at Brooks Institute of Photography in Ventura, CA. I am currently on a trip with 9 other people to Indonesia to take family portraits of the families in the areas most devastated by last year's tsunami. Our plan is to photograph every family and then print and frame a photo for each one. The purpose of the trip is to help bring emotional healing to the people after their incredible loss. http://www.nathancremisino.com

finally....

so I finally got time to sit down and write an e-mail. Of course...internet isn't overly easy to come by and for some reason my computer did not want to let me connect to the internet here. So I am on my wonderful father's computer right now, so I do not have any lovely photo to post this round....but the update!

wow....this is a beautiful place full of incredibley beautiful people. After three days of taking portraits of them, I am completely in love with this place. Of course, for me that isn't uncommon...I tend to fall in love with every new place that I go. The first two days we set up in one place and just let everyone come to us to take the portraits. But this morning my partner Jeff and I decided to try and track down a few of the families that didn't come to get their portait taken. It was so awesome to get to go around to a number of different homes and photograph people that either couldn't leave their homes or didn't make it the day before. We also came across a monkey today...he tried to bite me and kick my camera, lucky for me he was tied up!

The stories could keep coming, but my computer is currently sitting on the table that will soon be occupied with food....and hamburger...boring, I know, but I just felt like going "easy" for the night. One quick story though. As we were sitting around waiting for more families to come to photograph I started talking to a man that was standing nearby. He spoke english which is very uncommon. He proceeded to share with me how he was down by the harbor when the tsunami started and he jumped on his motorcycle with his 5 year old daughter. They drove back to their home, grabbed his wife and 2 DAY old baby and fled to the mountains. Upon his return after the water had recieded he found this..pointing to a slab of concrete that used to be his house. His story really touched me and I thought that you'd all like to hear it. I wish I had my photos with me so that i could post a photo of him...maybe soon.

Okay. food is here soon! Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! It has been an amazing time already and I am sure there is plenty of more experiences to come! Hope I can post again soon...love you all!

travel....

I've made it to Singapore after a 14 hour flight to Hong Kong, a two hour layover and then a 3 hour flight here. the flights were fine, uneventful and i've gotten a shower so I don't even stink anymore! it's rainy here and we are about to embark on a tour of the city during our 7 hour layover here. Then it's off to Medan. Well, that's all i just thought i'd let you all know that I made it mostly here safely. one more flight. okay, so that's all about travel. the team is leaving me! bye!

Day 1 - Prayer Warriors Appreciated

Hey guys! Can you believe it? My very own blog. Thanks to my amazing friend Greg, I'll be able to post to my blog to keep all of you updated of how God is using the team and I to shine Jesus to all we come in contact with while we're in Indonesia.

Your prayers are SO appreciated! I couldn't do this missions trip without the solid prayer foundation God has blessed me with.

I am not sure how often I'll be able to write on here, but whenever I have internet access I'll try and post something new and hopefully figure out how to post photos as well.

Thanks,
